The other day I had a craving for meatballs, but I didn’t want to make them with marinara sauce. I’ve recently fell in love with the ‘Safeway Select’ brand of simmer sauces. They have a whole line of about 10 sauces, and being the fake chef that I am, I’ve committed myself to trying them all.
My favorite by far has been the Korean Barbeque Simmer Sauce. It’s similar to a bulgogi sauce. I’ve used it to make chicken, beef + seafood dishes, and now I used it create this easy dish for less than $10!
Here’s the recipe:
What you’ll need:
+ 16 oz (1 lb) bag of turkey meatballs
+ 18 oz jar of ‘Safeway Select’ Korean BBQ Simmer Sauce
+ 1-2 stalks of green onions (chopped)
Instructions:
1) In a large skillet cook meatballs thoroughly.
2) Add Korean BBQ sauce + cover with a lid. Let the meatballs simmer for 15-20 minutes. (I like the sauce to get sticky + caramelized so I tend to turn the fire up a little + cook a little longer.)
3) Take meatballs off of the stove + plate.
4) Garnish with green onions.
5) Enjoy!
My plated meal:
I served the meatballs with brown rice + garlicky green beans. You can serve with brown rice, rice noodles or quinoa + a vegetable of your choice.

I love this twist on traditional meatballs! I’m not a huge Italian meatball person so these look much more appealing to me.

I’m not a huge fan of traditional meatballs either! Plus this gives a sweet/tangy spin on the original recipe. I love it!
